Parking Lot Security Camera Count Calculator
Estimate how many overview cameras a rectangular parking lot may need before you move into a real site design. The model combines lot dimensions, horizontal pixels, field of view and a target pixels-per-foot level.
Why pixel density belongs in camera-count planning
Counting cameras from square footage alone is misleading. A 4K camera can cover a huge area for detection, but far less area when recognition or identification detail is required. Axis summarizes common IEC 62676-4:2014 planning bands at roughly 8, 20, 40 and 80 pixels per foot for detect, observe, recognize and identify.
Why this is only a starting point
Parking lots rarely behave like clean rectangles. Vehicles create occlusion, light changes by direction and time of day, and entrances often need tighter evidence views than the rest of the lot. Use the result to estimate camera scale, then design dedicated views for entrances, payment areas, pedestrian paths and plate lanes.
