Reolink RLC-843A Specs & Ownership Analysis

A verified look at the Reolink RLC-843A: 4K PoE, IK10 vandal resistance, 5x optical zoom, local storage and open-protocol support.

Updated September 13, 2026 · SecurityVerdicts research desk

The RLC-843A combines the vandal-resistant dome architecture of the 840A with a motorized 2.7-13.5mm lens and 5× optical zoom.

Best fit: locations where both tamper resistance and post-installation framing flexibility matter.

Why it costs more

The value is the ability to narrow the scene after mounting while retaining optical detail, especially for gates, driveways and entry choke points.

Two features justify this model: IK10 and 5× optical zoom

The RLC-843A combines a vandal-resistant dome with a motorized 2.7–13.5mm lens. Reolink documents 3840×2160 at up to 25fps, 5× optical zoom and a horizontal field of view from 105° down to 31°. That is a useful combination when the camera is exposed to tampering but the final evidence zone cannot be framed precisely until installation.

Where the housing matters

Reolink rates the enclosure IK10 for impact resistance and IP67 for weather exposure. That makes the 843A a better architectural fit than a normal bullet camera for low-mounted entrances, parking structures, storefronts and other reachable locations. IK10 reduces one failure mode; it does not make poor mounting height, exposed cabling or weak recorder security irrelevant.

Local recording is unusually flexible

The current official specification lists microSD up to 512GB, Reolink NVR and FTP storage, plus RTSP and ONVIF. Recording can be motion-triggered, scheduled or continuous. PoE carries power and data over one Ethernet run, which simplifies UPS-backed operation because the camera and recorder/network switch can be protected centrally.

When not to buy it

If the scene is fixed and safely mounted, the 5× motorized lens and IK10 enclosure may be unnecessary cost. A fixed-lens PoE model can deliver the same basic local-first architecture more cheaply. Conversely, if you need active pan/tilt tracking, this is still a fixed-position dome.

Best fit: exposed evidence zones where vandal resistance and post-install optical framing both matter.
