Dealership lots are large, reflective and busy. Reliable plate evidence comes from a controlled entrance/exit lane, not from trying to read plates anywhere across a wide inventory overview.

Separate identification from overview. Use a tight plate camera at the vehicle choke point and wider cameras for lot movement, inventory rows and after-hours context.

Choose the lane before the camera

The best capture point is where vehicles move predictably and preferably slow or stop. Minimize lateral offset and mounting height relative to the plate lane, then test with the License Plate Camera Angle Calculator.

Night glare and reflective plates

Headlights, pole lights and reflective vehicle surfaces can destroy a general-purpose night scene. Validate plate capture after dark and keep exposure/shutter settings optimized for the lane rather than the whole lot.

Correlate vehicle entry with inventory context

A plate event is more useful when the lot system can show where the vehicle went next. Use overview cameras on drive aisles and inventory rows to preserve movement context after the entry capture.
