The best Home Assistant camera is not simply the one with the most integrations. It is the one whose core functions remain available locally: stream, events, credentials and recording should not collapse when vendor cloud access is removed.
Prioritize a native local integration
A documented Home Assistant integration can expose motion events, AI classifications, PTZ controls and streams directly on the LAN. Reolink is a strong example because the Home Assistant documentation explicitly describes local operation and continued function when internet access is blocked on supported devices.
Fallback path: RTSP and ONVIF
Even without a rich native integration, local RTSP can provide the stream and ONVIF may provide discovery or events. That can be enough when Frigate or another recorder handles intelligence.
