How Many Security Cameras Can a 100 Mbps Network Handle?
Calculate how many IP cameras fit on a 100 Mbps link without saturating the network, using bitrate and safety margin.
A 100 Mbps Ethernet link does not mean you should budget the full 100 Mbps for camera streams. Protocol overhead, bitrate spikes and other traffic reduce the practical ceiling.

Those numbers describe bandwidth only. Your recorder, switch PoE budget, storage and processing capacity may become the limiting factor first.
Where the 100 Mbps bottleneck actually is
A camera can connect at 100 Mbps while the switch uplink is gigabit. In that design, each camera has far more port capacity than it needs and the shared uplink carries the aggregate. The problem occurs when the shared uplink itself is only 100 Mbps or when a recorder has a 100 Mbps network interface.
Continuous recording versus event recording
Network bitrate is driven by the video stream, not by whether the recorder later keeps every second. Some motion-recording systems still transmit video continuously to the NVR for analysis. Verify the actual architecture before assuming motion recording reduces network traffic.
