Warehouse Security Camera Placement Guide

Warehouses are difficult because the building itself creates blind spots: tall racking, dock doors, mezzanines, forklifts, moving pallets and high ceilings all break the assumption that one wide camera can cover a large floor area.

Design rule: build the system by operational zone, not by square footage. Entrances, receiving, shipping, high-value storage and yard access usually deserve tighter evidence views than open warehouse spans.

High mounting can reduce evidence quality

Mounting near the roof is convenient and tamper resistant, but steep viewing angles can reduce facial detail and make pallet or vehicle interactions harder to interpret. Use high cameras for overview and lower, tighter cameras at doors, cages and docks where identification matters.

Lighting is part of the camera design

Dock doors can create extreme backlight, while aisles may have uneven illumination and exterior yards change dramatically after dark. Camera placement should be checked during the actual operating conditions, not only from a floor plan.
