Recurring camera plans are services, not fixed hardware prices. Vendors can change them. Wyze's Cam Plus annual rate increased from $19.99 to $29.99 for U.S. renewals beginning in March 2026, a 50% increase in the annual price.
Compounding ownership impact
A $10 annual increase sounds small until multiplied across several cameras and several years. Four per-device subscriptions with a $10 increase create $200 of additional recurring cost over five years if the higher rate remains in place.
Use scenarios instead of one forecast
Run a flat-price case, a moderate-inflation case and a one-time-price-increase case. If local storage wins under all three, the economic decision is robust.
Do not assume every vendor prices per camera
Google and Ring offer whole-home/location tiers. Arlo and eufy offer unlimited-camera options. The effect of a price increase therefore depends on whether your plan is device-based or household-based.
