Security Camera for a Detached Garage Without Wi-Fi
The right solution depends on what infrastructure reaches the garage: power, cable, line of sight to the house and cellular signal.

Do not solve a network problem with a more expensive camera
A higher-resolution camera cannot repair a weak link back to the house. Metal siding, masonry, distance and walls can reduce ordinary Wi-Fi severely. Test connectivity at the exact mounting point. If a mesh node still has to transmit through several structures, a dedicated bridge or wired run can be far more predictable.
Power changes the best answer
If the garage already has electricity, powered cameras avoid battery maintenance and make continuous recording practical. If it has no power, battery plus solar can work for event-based surveillance, but sunlight, cold weather, frequent detections and live viewing all reduce the energy margin.
Keep footage somewhere harder to steal
A card inside the camera is simple, but if the camera disappears the footage may disappear with it. A home NVR, indoor hub or remote backup creates separation between the camera and the evidence. That matters more in a garage holding vehicles, tools or expensive equipment.
What we would prioritize
For a permanent detached garage, first investigate a stable network path. If Ethernet is feasible, use it. If the property layout makes cable unreasonable, test a point-to-point bridge. Use cellular when the garage is genuinely independent of the home network.
