Reolink RLC-840A vs RLC-843A

Both are 4K vandal-resistant PoE cameras. The real decision is whether you need the RLC-843A’s motorized 5× optical zoom or the RLC-840A’s simpler fixed 2.8mm wide view.

Choose RLC-840A when the scene is already known

The fixed 105° horizontal view is well suited to entrances, short driveways, corridors and other positions where broad context matters more than long-distance framing. Fewer moving optical parts also keeps the camera conceptually simpler.

Choose RLC-843A when framing flexibility matters

The 5× optical zoom is the important upgrade. You can install the camera first and then narrow the scene optically around a gate, parking area or evidence zone without sacrificing native resolution through digital cropping.

What does not change

Both retain the core local-first PoE architecture: wired power/data, local microSD recording, NVR compatibility and documented RTSP/ONVIF support in Reolink’s wired ecosystem.

Verdict: RLC-840A for fixed wide coverage and lower complexity; RLC-843A when one mounting point must support precise post-install framing.
