Local Security Cameras With Person Detection but No Required Cloud Storage
How on-device and local-hub person detection differs from cloud AI, and what remains available without a monthly plan.
Person detection does not inherently require the cloud. Modern cameras can classify people on-device or send video to a local hub that performs the inference. The important question is whether those detections still work when you decline the vendor cloud plan.

Local detection still needs careful verification
Some ecosystems include person/vehicle detection without a recurring plan while charging only for optional cloud backup. Others reserve advanced classifications for subscriptions. Read the current plan matrix for the exact product family.
Self-hosted option
Frigate can move object detection entirely onto your own server while cameras supply RTSP streams. That makes “smart camera” features less important than stream stability and optics.
