Best Local-Storage Security Cameras by Architecture
There is no single “best local storage.” The right system depends on whether you want simple onboard recording, centralized NVR storage, an indoor base station or a consumer hub.

Which architecture is strongest?
For multi-camera permanent installations, PoE + NVR is usually the cleanest local-first design. For wireless installs, indoor-base storage is attractive because stealing a camera does not necessarily steal the clip. On-camera storage is cheapest but concentrates evidence and hardware in one exposed device.
What we exclude from “local-first”
A camera is not automatically local-first merely because some local-storage accessory exists. We look at whether recording works without a required cloud plan, where the footage physically lives, and whether the local path is central to the product or an optional add-on.
