Security Camera False Alerts From Rain, Spiders and Insects

Outdoor nuisance alerts often come from real image changes that are irrelevant: a web moving near the lens, an insect glowing in IR, rain, branches, reflections or passing headlights.

Fix the scene before crushing sensitivity. Lowering sensitivity can reduce nuisance alerts but may also hide real people.

Fastest fixes

  • Clean the lens/housing and remove spiderwebs.
  • Trim branches or move the camera away from repeatedly moving foreground objects.
  • Exclude roads, trees, reflective surfaces and other irrelevant areas from active zones.
  • Use human/vehicle classification for notifications instead of “any motion” where supported.
  • Adjust minimum object size, delay and sensitivity only after the scene is cleaned up.

Why night can be worse

IR illuminators make objects close to the lens disproportionately bright. A moth or spiderweb a few centimeters from the camera can dominate the image compared with a person farther away.

Tune one variable at a time

Review several nuisance clips and identify the repeated trigger. Change the relevant zone, object filter or sensitivity, then observe whether legitimate walking/vehicle events still trigger reliably.
