Best 4-Camera Security System Without a Subscription
Four cameras are enough for many homes: front entry/driveway, rear entry, and two side or yard zones. At this size, a PoE NVR is usually the cleanest no-subscription architecture because it centralizes 24/7 footage indoors.

Why four cameras is a useful breakpoint
With one or two cameras, microSD can be enough. At four cameras, centralized storage becomes easier to manage: one retention policy, one drive, one export interface and footage that does not disappear if an exterior camera is stolen.
How much storage do four 4K cameras need?

No subscription does not mean no network services
These architectures can record locally without a mandatory cloud-storage plan. Vendor apps may still use internet services for convenient remote access or notifications. If you want a stricter LAN-only system, isolate the camera network and provide remote access through a VPN or other trusted path.
